Rafael Ortega (outfielder), who has been making waves by following the Hanwha Eagles’ official Instagram account, will wear a New York Mets uniform.

“The Mets have signed outfielder Rafael Ortega to a minor league contract,” MLB Trade Rumors reported on July 17 (KST).

Ortega signed with the New York Yankees this season and participated in spring training, but did not make the opening roster. He then signed with the Texas Rangers and played 44 games at Triple-A Round Rock, batting .226 (38-for-168) with five home runs, 26 RBIs and 31 runs scored.

Since making his big league debut in 2012, Ortega has played for the Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, Atlanta Braves, and Chicago Cubs.

In 364 career games through last year, Ortega batted .259 (1022-for-256) with 21 home runs, 101 RBIs and 120 runs scored. In 2021, he had a career-high season with the Chicago Cubs, batting .241 (206-for-86) with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs in 103 games.먹튀검증

Ortega recently made headlines by following Hanwha’s official Instagram account. There was some speculation that he could be a replacement for foreign-born slugger Brian O’Grady in a Hanwha uniform, but he has been given the opportunity to extend his career with the Mets.
