These are the words of Deoksu High School coach Yunjin Jeong, who won the championship at the 2023 Shinsegae E-Mart Cup National High School Baseball Championship held at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on the 11th. Deoksu High School won the championship by beating Gangneung High School 5-4 in the final. Coach Chung took office as the head coach of his alma mater in 2008, and until that day, he had won his 15th championship trophy in his personal career.
In the final of this tournament, special attention was paid to the head-to-head confrontation between the coaches of the two teams. This is because of the special relationship between the two directors. Coach Jeong and Gangneung High School coach Choi Jae-ho ate together at Deoksu High School in the early 2000s. Coach Choi led Deoksu High School in 1999, and coach Jung joined in 2001 as a coach. The two coaches are masters representing high school baseball. Coach Chung has won trophies 15 times in his career at Deoksu High School, and coach Choi has won 9 national championships. Before the game, coach Choi said, “I worked as a coach for 7 years during my time at Deoksu High School. Since then, I have been leading my alma mater well. He is a great leader. I will play a great game with seniors and juniors.”
After meeting with the reporters after the game, coach Jeong seemed to restrain his emotions as much as possible. And he was polite to his senior coach Choi. Coach Jeong said, “I felt that Gangneung High School’s potential was great.
