Chelsea are targeting Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana after his impressive performance in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) final.

“Chelsea are set to step up their pursuit of Inter Milan goalkeeper Onana after his impressive performance in the UCL final,” Nizar Kinsella of the British Evening Standard reported on Wednesday (June 12).

Onana is a Cameroonian goalkeeper. A former Barcelona La Masia player, he is known for his reflexes and often makes incredible saves. He was Ajax’s goalkeeper for five seasons, starting in 2016-17, and led them to the UCL quarterfinals in 2018-19.

This season, he moved to Inter Milan. After a brief adjustment period, Onana has completely overtaken Samir Handanovic as the Nerazzurri’s first-choice goalkeeper. His staggering 36 goals and 19 clean sheets in 41 games across all competitions this season proved his case for selection.

His performance in the UCL final was also impressive. Onana’s stellar saves in the UCL tournament kept Manchester City at bay until Rodri’s 23rd-minute winner in the second half. He also showed a lot of heart, staying calm in the buildup at the back under pressure.

He is on the radar of Chelsea, who are in urgent need of reinforcements at the back. While Kepa Arrizabalaga hasn’t been bad this season, the Blues are likely to bid farewell to Edouard Mendy, who has been relegated to second choice goalkeeper after a string of poor performances.먹튀검증

He’s also someone Mauricio Pochettino wants. Pochettino, who was appointed as Chelsea’s new manager on the 29th of last month, is looking to strengthen across the board. The same goes for the goalkeeping position, which is why Chelsea have made Onana a priority target.

The transfer fee is expected to be in the region of £50 million. According to Kinsella, “Inter Milan want at least £50 million for Onana. They may have to sell him to ease their financial problems. Chelsea held talks with Inter Milan in April, and now they are set to resume talks.”
