Kwon Hyuk-jun Reporter = San Diego Padres’ Kim Ha-seong (28) became the first Korean major leaguer to reach the 30-steal plateau in a single season.
Kim went 1-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk and two stolen bases in four at-bats against the San Francisco Giants at Petco Park in San Diego, California, on Thursday (June 4).
Kim, who had 29 stolen bases prior to the game, added two more, giving him his 31st stolen base of the season. He now has eight stolen bases this season, giving him a 79.5 percent success rate.
He is the first Korean major leaguer to reach 30 stolen bases in a season. The previous record was 22 stolen bases by Shin-Soo Choo (SSG Rangers) in 2010 with the Cleveland Indians.
After breaking Shin-Soo Choo’s record with his 23rd stolen base on May 5, Kim made history by reaching the 30-steal plateau.
In his first at-bat in the bottom of the first inning, Kim lined a single to right off San Francisco starter Alex Cobb.
In the next at-bat, he stole second base off Fernando Tatis Jr.
However, when Tatis Jr. grounded to the shortstop, Kim was thrown out trying to steal third base.
San Diego then took the lead with a two-run homer by Juan Soto and later added a run on an RBI double by Xander Bogaerts.
After striking out in his second at-bat of the inning, Kim stole another base in the bottom of the fourth.

With his multi-hit performance, Kim raised his season average to .275.
San Diego went on to win 4-0. They held on to the early lead.
Starter Seth Lugo earned his sixth win of the season with six innings of three-hit ball, one walk and four strikeouts.
With their third straight win, San Diego improved to 65-73 on the season and remained in fourth place in the National League West.
They are six games out of the final postseason spot, the third wild-card spot, with the Arizona Diamondbacks (70-66).
San Francisco, which has lost three straight, is third in the division at 70-67.
