The mighty Brazil fell in overtime. Israel made history.

Israel defeated Brazil 3-2 in overtime in the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in San Juan, Argentina, early on Thursday morning. Israel will face the winner of the USA vs. Uruguay match on Monday in the quarterfinals for a spot in the final.

Brazil dropped a 2-3 decision to Italy in the group stage, but cruised to victories over the Dominican Republic (6-0) and Nigeria (2-0) to reach the round of 16. Brazil is the favorite in the Round of 16, coming off a 4-1 win over Tunisia.

Israel, on the other hand, barely made it through the group stage with one win, one draw, and one loss. The Israelis barely made it to the round of 16 with a 2-1 win over Japan in their final match. In the round of 16, Israel also defeated Uzbekistan 1-0 to reach the quarterfinals.

Out of the gate, Israel was relentless. Brazil pushed forward, but goals didn’t come easily. The breakthrough came in the 42nd minute.
