KIA Tigers’ Lee Yi-ri (21) returned from the break and combined with transfer catcher Kim Tae-gun (34) to lead the team to victory.
Lee started the game against the KT Wiz of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on Aug. 8 and pitched five innings of three-hit ball with two walks and eight strikeouts.
Lee, who is 7-5 with a 3.82 ERA in 16 games (73 innings) this season, was removed from the first-team roster on March 28 to rest. After missing one start, Lee returned and dominated the KT lineup with a fastball that topped out at 151 kilometers per hour and a sharp mix of pitches, including a slider, changeup and curveball.
“I tried to come out and throw with a clear mind,” Lee said in a postgame interview, “but I think my fastball didn’t go in a little bit today. I tried to mix up my pitches well and it worked,” Lee said of his victory.
Lee said she focused on balancing her pitches during the break, “I tried to catch myself from spinning too much when I was throwing the ball. When I throw, I have to go forward and use power exactly, but I had a problem of turning too much to the side. I think I threw well today,” he said.
KIA has won four straight games since acquiring Kim Tae-gun in a trade on May 5. Manager Kim Jong-kook said in a pregame interview, “Kim Tae-gun has been a big help. I think the pitchers have more faith in him because he is an experienced catcher,” said Kim Jong-guk in an interview before the game.
Lee Yi-ri, who worked with Kim for the first time, said, “I think it was a good result today because (Kim) got rid of a lot of distractions. If your body keeps spinning, the power of your slider or curveball drops, and your fastball doesn’t survive. He advised me to exaggerate it and throw it with a top-to-bottom motion. He talked to me a lot during the game and made me feel comfortable. I also trusted him with the ball mix,” he said, showing his faith in Kim Tae-gun.토토사이트
