Women’s table tennis ace Shin Yoo-bin (Korean Air) has advanced to the third round (Round of 32) of the Women’s Singles at the World Table Tennis Championships in Durban, South Africa.
Shin, ranked 26th in the world, came from behind to defeat France’s Audrey Jarif, ranked 94th, 4-1 (7-11 11-8 11-4 11-6 11-6) in the women’s singles second round (Round of 64) on Wednesday. After struggling a bit early on, dropping the first game, Shin said, “I didn’t play as well as I could have. I wasn’t as aggressive as I could have been,” she said, adding, “I’ll try to create something as good as a win in my next match.”
Shin Yubin will start competing against stronger opponents in the third round. She will next face the winner of the Giannan Yuan (18th, France)-Varvora Balazova (44th, Slovakia) match.먹튀검증
If she makes it past the third round, she will likely face world number one Sun Yingxia of China in the quarterfinals. Shin has only met Sun Yingxia once before, at the 2018 Austrian Open, where she lost 0-4.
Shin is also in contention for a medal in the mixed doubles, where she is partnered with Lim Jong-hoon (Korea Exchange), and in the women’s doubles, where she is paired with Jeon Ji-hee (Mirae Asset Securities).
